Falls + Balance Class

Our Falls and Balance Classes are aimed to keep you on your feet in your later years. There is a mixture of exercises in both sitting and standing and the class is supervised by a trained physiotherapist who will help you safely build your strength, balance, reflexes, and coordination. This type of class is also proven to help maintain muscle mass and bone density for those with osteoporosis (brittle bones).

There are a number of risk factors that increase the likelihood of falling including muscle weakness, problems with balance and gait, and blood pressure that drops too much when you get up from lying down or sitting.  All of these factors naturally deteriorate with age, however you can slow the decline with specific exercises such as the ones performed in this class.

This class is suited to you if you are 75+ years of age or if you lack confidence with balance and walking. Although many of our attendees are referred directly from their GP, you do not need a referral to attend.

Benefits of Falls and Balance Class:
  • Prevent injury from falls

  • Maintain quality of life

  • Improved heart function

  • Increased strength

  • Remain independent living

  • Reduced risk of stroke

  • Improved balance

  • Walk further

  • Improve bone health

Before your first class it is important to do a 20 minute assessment with a physio to assess your falls risk and suitability to the class. If you have a HomeCare Package with MyAgedCare, your package will likely fund this class.

We require you to book a 20 minute physiotherapy assessment prior to joining our class for the first time, this will help us assess your falls risk and class suitability.

Although many of our attendees are referred directly from their GP, you do not need a referral. We do advise that you get clearance from a medical practitioner prior to commencing, particularly if you have heart or circulation problems.

Once you have had your assessment  and been given clearance (if applicable), find a suitable class time on our timetable and book in for your first class.
